Exploring Tea Plantations in Ooty
Lamb’s Rock
Lamb’s Rock is roughly 7 kilometers away from Coonoor. The trek to the most appreciated viewing point passes through a forest. And there are tea, coffee, as well as lemongrass plantations in the surrounding area. You can also get a glimpse of the Mountain Railway that passes through nearby hills.
There is a mountain that appears like a sleeping lady. The point attracts tourists like a magnet. But, it is not visible when there are clouds or a lot of mist. You should reach the place by 9 AM to enjoy the picturesque views. A good local guide can show you the spot where the army chopper carrying CDS Bipin Rawat had crashed.
Doddabetta Tea Park
Highfield Tea Estate
The estate is roughly 22 kilometers away from Ooty and about two kilometers from Coonoor. You can spend hours peacefully at the tea garden on the hilltop and enjoy breathtaking views. Besides guides, even tea garden workers are eager to explain how tea leaves are turned into tea granules. They will also elaborate on how chocolate is extracted from beans, and natural oils derived from various leaves.
The estate has a factory that processes tea, natural oils, and chocolate. However, only selected areas of the unit remain operational. Thus, most tourists visit the attraction to spend time at the tea plantation and to view the terrain.
