Jaipur is home to many historically crucial monuments. But, which of these attractions are worth your time? No worries, this Pink City Guide covers details about four places that you should include in your Jaipur travel itinerary.
1. City Palace
The City Palace consists of multiple buildings. The Mubarak Mahal, Diwan-e-khas, Rang Mandir, and Shobha Niwas are portions of this fortified city that you should surely visit.
Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh 2 built the initial palace between 1729 and 1732. In fact, the Chandra Mahal (Moon Palace) portion inside the palace is still a home for the royal family. There is a museum in this building. You can take a close look at antique artworks, pottery, royal carpets, and weaponry used by royals.
Amazing crystal chandeliers, marble floors, stone archways, hand-painted ceilings, and gold detailing are aspects present in almost every building. Ensure you have two to three hours for this attraction.
2. Jantar Mantar
Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh 2 was a scholar in physics, astronomy, and math. He built five astronomical observation sites. Jantar Mantar is the one in Jaipur. The place is home to several stone-made instruments that helped determine the position of various planets in the past. And it played a key role in determining accurate time based on the position of the sun.
If you have done a bit of homework, you possibly already know that Jantar Mantar houses the world’s largest sundial. Dedicate at least 30 minutes to this attraction, and visit it during the mid-day.
3. Amber Fort
Before the formation of Jaipur, Kachwaha Rajputs used Amber Fort as their royal residence. The fort’s hilltop location, fortified walls, and the Maota Lake are key parts of its defensive structure. The monument was constructed in 1592. Amongst all the attractions inside the Amber Fort, the Sheesh Mahal deserves your attention.
Do you or your co-travelers love taking a less-traveled path? Consider walking into the underpass (tunnel) followed by a path to Jaigarh. Be ready to hike for at least 30 to 45 minutes.
4. Traditional Markets
Locally manufactured handicrafts, jewelry, gems, artwork, as well as textiles offer a glimpse into the Rajasthani culture. Tripolia Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar, or Johari Bazaar inside the Walled City are places to find these things. Most items sold at these markets are made by local artists.
